Miniature Faberge Eggs, From Russian Royal Beginnings to You

Since the first production of trinket boxes in France in a king’s personal kiln as early as the 17th century, they have been associated with the nobles and aristocrats. They have been rare and extravagant on account of the precious materials used in their making until the 19th century when they were produced in different materials like wood, paper, ivory and porcelain, more accessible to the common people.

However the most sought after trinket boxes and presumably the most extravagant ones were produced for the Russian Tsar from 1890s to the 1900s. These exquisite trinket boxes studded with the most precious metals and stones, popular as ‘Faberge Eggs’ were called so because they were crafted by a royal jeweler by the name of Carl Faberge. These extraordinary pieces were then presented to the Tsarina every year. What a captivating story!

Today replicas of those original boxes are available and are equally intricate as they are crafted by expert craftsmen. These close replicas make it possible for us to virtually own some of the royal Russian treasure at prices that are a lot more humble! Hence, the egg shaped trinket boxes, elaborately enameled and decorated with crystals are a very important part of our collection. Mini Faberge Eggs, yay!

All of our miniature Russian faberge egg trinket boxes are made with a pewter base. Pewter is an alloy with tin as its chief constituent and is a durable base for decorative objects. This pewter based egg trinket box is studded with Austrian crystals. The box is hinged on one side and features a magnet clasp on the other side which facilitates a smooth opening and firm closing of the box at the same time. The fine design on the bright scarlet colored enamel gives it a touch of royalty indeed.

It can prove to be equally useful to men for storing their tie pins and cuff links so that they don’t end up having to search for them on mornings when they are particularly getting late!

Our crystal studded faberge eggs provide an interesting variation as a gift idea for those who are difficult to shop for and are hard to impress. We also carry traditional Russian eggs.
