These Russian Thimbles were diligently created by Russian craftsmen. Each thimble is carved out of solid piece of wood. This process does not involve any measurements and rely only on intuition of the craftsman, which requires great skills. After woodwork is done, the thimble is cleaned, primed with starchy glue to make its surface smooth, polished and ready for painting. Russian miniature painting is a very intricate art. Artist meticulously applies painting onto the thimble by a very fine brush, usually made out of one-two hairs of sable fur. After being hand-painted, the thimble is dried for several days. Then it is ready for lacquer to be applied. It takes about 6 to 7 layers of lacquer to create a brilliant shine. Each thimble is a collector’s dream: there are no two the same and each of them depicts different subject, story, or Russian fairytale. Size: 1 1/4" Tall Pieces: 1
