This crucifix was crafted by Russian monks living and working in The Sofrino Monastery, located in a province near Moscow. Constructed of linden wood and bronze. The upper bar of this cross represents the title of the cross, the second the arms, and the lowest, which is always inclined at an angle, the suppedaneum or foot-rest. The hand cross is used in blessing and preaching and symbolizes the bishop's office of teaching and sanctifying his flock.
